You see the calm.
You don’t always see what it takes to create it.
Like a swan gliding effortlessly across the water, we often only see what exists above the surface—the composure, the accomplishments, the smile, the person who seems to have everything under control.
But underneath, there is movement.
Constant movement.
My swan represents invisible work—all the effort that happens quietly behind what others see.
For a neurodivergent person, that work can mean processing an overwhelming environment, regulating emotions, remembering the steps others seem to do automatically, preparing conversations, managing sensory input, or simply using enormous amounts of energy to make it through an ordinary day.
But invisible work belongs to many stories.
It is the parent keeping everything together.
The caregiver anticipating everyone's needs.
The person quietly rebuilding themselves.
The one carrying a weight no one knows exists.
The swan reminds us that something appearing effortless does not mean that no effort was required.
There is an entire story beneath the surface.
Just because you cannot see the work does not mean it isn't happening.
